At over 1,700 square metres, the historic walled garden is thought to be one of the best examples of a traditional walled garden in the British Isles. Set amidst 15 acres of wonderful rolling Cheshire countryside, the extensive gardens at Hilltop Country House surround the 17th century house and are a plant lovers paradise. The gardens are divided into smaller gardens set on different levels including an enclosed secret parterre, wildlife areas, ponds, established mixed borders, an orchard, formal herb garden and a newly planted wood. There are many mature trees which provide structure throughout. Brampton is a medium sized garden created over the last two years from an undeveloped plot. The garden includes young trees, cottage garden style borders, a potager area with raised beds and a small greenhouse, two water features, small orchard with meadow and sitting areas, including a secluded walled fire pit space with woodland planting. The garden needs to be appreciated as a new, evolving garden the owners are still developing and keen to share with visitors at this early stage. Opens Sunday 3rd August.
Our colourful and vibrant garden is spread over two main areas, one warm and sunny, the other cooler and shadier. There is a peaceful pond area, games lawn and mixed borders. Walking past our greenhouse leads to further gardens and raised beds, in a courtyard setting. Residents help out with the production of many of our plants, all expertly managed by our gardener. The Campus contains several historic features inc an C18 Hall, with a Pleasure garden and croquet lawn. Throughout the garden there are references to fish, this reflects its former name: Trout Hall. The orchard is a habitat for wildlife, and it is managed to enhance this. Vibrant planting of dahlias, crocosmias and rudbeckias around the residents lounge provides an unusual distraction for both residents and visitors. The courtyard area, small orchard and woodland, all look particularly beautiful in late summer with views through to neighbouring fields of New Forest ponies and deer. This year the garden opening is timed to co-incide with an exhibition of local artists as part of Herefordshire Art Week, the details of which are at www.radnorshireartists.com. A proportion of the accompanying art event proceeds will be donated to the National Garden Scheme as well. The jubilee orchard, tree plantings and honeysuckle and Rosa Rugosa filled hedgerows planted in recent years are maturing nicely – plants will be for sale inc oak and sycamore saplings, and others.
